Staff so friendly we went for drinks only but felt 100% comfortable there

Quiet little bar near the RLD. Went in as they advertised in the front window that they were showing the darts, friendly staff and good room with TVs upstairs. The window seat is good for people watching and you can smoke upstairs. Unfortunately they had technical issues but moved people around so we could view the working TVs (through a window!) which was nice but it wasn't the booth with a TV in front of us as we had originally scored when we got there so I had to lower the score.

Rick's Cafe is outstanding. I've been back many times. The first time I was there, I lost my bags from Prague, on my way to Amsterdam. The bartender was so cool and helpful, she helped directed me to a place where I could buy some essentials - toothbrush, deodorant, soap, etc. I've been back to this place every time I've visited Amsterdam since, and I didn't even know the name was from Casablanca. Now that I've seen the movie, it makes it all that more special. Great bar!

Owner utterly rude and bizarre! We were just on our way into the cafe when I noticed a empty beer glass on the floor so I picked it up and placed it onto a table so it didn't get smashed/ cut someone, the man I assume is the owner (an older man with a ponytail) started shouting at me to take the glass back as he didn't need it... I politely explained my intention, he then aggressively throw the glass shattering it all on the pavement and road right outside of his own cafe and carried on shouting at me, at that point we turned away in shock...needless to say we didn't stay to try the food! I can't believe someone would behave like at at 10.45am let alone to discourage tourists from their empty business, awful first experience of Amsterdam.

Beautiful view of the river. Mojito was awesome. Did not get a chance to try the food .

Nice spot for a cheap casual drink by the canal. Close to red light district and central.

Spliffs only smh - nonetheless was a good spliff. Sat in cafe area, was told I need to purchase a drink to sit, hence I bought a Coke Zero. Ambience was good and Rick also had a bathroom.

I took the happy hour, so a pint for 4 euro. The best place to have cheap a beer in Amsterdam with a very nice landscape.

Justin and cecilia were very welcoming and friendly. (They worked behind the bar) This is my first time in Amsterdam and they gave me a lot of tips on how to have the best time in this beautiful city. They accommodated to myself and my friends and their service was speedy and efficient. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you want a chill vibe and good times. Come to this place !!!!! The music was top notch aswell!!! :)

We visited Amsterdam for 3 days between 13th June and 16th june and visited some Amazing places, unfortunately Rick's wasnt Amazing at all. The first night we went it was supposed to be happy hour on cocktails which were advertised at €10 each, there was some confusion over the price of the round and we was overcharged at €12 each cocktail after the lady spent a while fumbling around working out the price. The cocktails were well presented but didn't represent value for money, there was so little drink in the glass as it was filled with ice and a plastic glow up ice cube in a small glass, it lasted about 10 seconds. On the way back past the lady told us it was last orders and asked if we would like any more drinks, we said yes and tried to tell her our order but she walked off mid conversation and started serving other people. The man who I assume is the owner started to clear things away around us, we asked him if we could order some drinks and he grumpily accepted. We ordered 3 Heineken, he slammed 3 half filled glasses down and as soon as he put them on the table he told us to drink them and go, then came back with plastic glasses. He was very rude but we accepted that they were closing and moved on. We had another bad experience with a food place called Steakhouse Amsterdam which we referred to as the rudest place I'm amsterdam, we joked about revisiting the second rudest place in amsterdam (Ricks) thinking it might not actually be that bad, so we visited again during the day and it took about 2 minutes before the same man was instantly rude to my friend again. We had some really nice experiences also so it's a shame that the 2 places mentioned were rude enough to leave a stain on our memories of Amsterdam. Location and setting get an honourable mention though as it looks really nice outside next to the canals

Good place if you want a pint for 4 EUR: This is the offer for a couple hours per day, but only the Heineken. We took some nachos with cheese, the problem is that you can't serve those into a basket covered with a tissue because the cheese was like glue on the tissue. After the beer was finished they started to push for having us go away... Rude.

This is a cool little bar. At a good location right in the center of town. I have been here three times now while here in Amsterdam on vacation and have always had a good experience here. I already met and talked to about 5 of the employees here and they all were very friendly to me. They also have competive prices and $4 EURO Heineken special on Happy hour everyday from 4-6. They also have good music here too which I like

Ordered Rick's shot due to it being the cheapest on the menu, only 3 pounds!!! Then a man who I can only assume was RICK, emerged and grabbed my chin and proceeded to spit directly down my throat!!!! Probably won't come again but who knows?

Located in a very touristy part of the city but was generally nicer than the myriad of Bulldog chain coffeeshops that litter the canals. As with most coffeeshops in that area you're required to purchase a drink if you want to sit in and smoke, and no tobacco is allowed. Generally a relaxed a quiet vibe, a nice break from the hectic streets outside.

Rudest owner you will ever meet. Borderline scrapping with the guy before. If I could give -5 stars I would. Been to Amsterdam ten times he is literally the most unlikeable, distasteful, angriest coffee shop owner to ever walk the streets. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Or Hadar - 1 year ago
We searched for a bar which you can smoke pure weed without tobacco, and to have a drink. Lovely couple who run the store who told us some tips about the city, 5 kinds of beer which taste awesome, everything was clean. Awesome music. Would return for sure!

I love this place. Nice coffe... Nice bud and really friendly staff and a toilet you can use if you are paying. Will definitely keep this coffeeshop in my favourite to visit list.

It’s a good coffee shop in Amsterdam with a nice cafe attached. Ricks cafe. If I could give 6* for the creative name I would
Albert Hoefel - 1 year ago
Very nice place. As the owner says himself, the design looks "not finished", there is no fancy lights and decorations inside like in the other coffeeshops, but there are really good vibes here. Also, the owner is really nice and really loves his job ! Just minus one because of the blonde girl who just forget to smile but does know only to yell at people.

I didn’t have a bad experience purchasing products but I had a bad time smoking an sitting in the shop. How they treat other customers who aren’t as savvy when it comes to coffeeshops or weed is shocking. I do not recommend this shop if you want a good time as you are nearly screamed at for not purchasing drinks by the lady and the man is about as helpful as a chocolate teapot, both the workers need to heavily improve their people skills.

Is a scam, paid for a round of drinks for 42 euros but they charged me 420 euros. Lady is rude and showed me a fake receipt and said she can't do anything about it. Rip of tourists so don't go.

After mistakenly walking into the cafe bit instead of the coffeeshop me and my friend practically had our heads bitten off by the woman behind the bar because we asked where the toilet was and we hadn’t yet ordered a drink from her. We weren’t even given chance to explain, just plain rude. Not surprised to see so many similar reviews but hopefully they’ll decide to train their staff up on customer service.

Been here a few times, don’t know why everyone has giving it bad rating nice chill atmosphere with good music, they’ve always been fine with us

rude, grumpy owner that probably hates his own life. Mocking people on the street, being racist and misogynistic. If I could, I’d give zero stars, but unfortunately it’s not possible. I’m not a fan of one star reviews, but this one earned it. Please don’t go there

great food and a beautiful place to spend the evening.

The most impolite and unwelcoming place I've ever sat at. I only raised my hand to call her to come so that I may finally order my drinks after waiting for 20 minutes. She basically told me to shut up and wait. Waited another 10 minutes, then got up and left.

I went here because of the location - the nice view over the canals and the energy of happy tourists. The drinks were okay, but a bit expensive. It was quite crowded, which might not be for everyone. The waiter was quite busy, but was decent.
JamJustice - 1 year ago
Worst atmosphere and coffeeshop in the world. Owner basically demanded I buy a drink and then rolled their eyes at a customer for being a first timer and not understanding how things worked. When I preceded to help the customer, they rolled their eyes at the both of us. Disgusting place. Don’t waste your time.

The owner wanted to fight us randomly. Just because we asked for some information.

Nice little spot to smoke but the owner is so rude and the joints and 70% tobacco so buy/bring flower to smoke as he truly doesn’t deserve your money.

Please sell your business to someone that will put in effort. The most rude and unwelcoming place you can ever visit in Netherlands. You give the Dutch a horrible reputation. Hands down the worst coffeeshop in all of Europe. Outdated, overpriced strains grown in horrible conditions and fast dried (EVERY BUD SMELLS LIKE HAY). The owner seems to be a naturally unhappy person and hates his life and job.

Worst customer service i have ever seen. It’s not worth it going there.

My first visit in 2014, I purchased 30 euros worth of cannabis and a coca cola drink, I sat down to roll up and the owner slams down a menu on the table and demands I order drinks and food because "this isn't a smoking only room", during this time there wasn't any no smoking signs and I was their only customer in the building. I recently walked by and noticed their menu is still awful and the quality of cannabis is just as terrible. They rely only on their location, and the owner and his workers hate being there and cant even pretend to be normal humans. This is the most miserable place that you can visit in all of Amsterdam.

Gratis shoppa. Personeel gedraagt zich als of ze de cannabis Monopoly hebben. if you are a toerist, go look for a other shop, because Ricky's want to scam you if your not from around the city

We entered and asked if they have a bong that we could smoke if we buy something. He told us that they are only for takeaway at the moment. No problem so far. He (the server/seller) then told us he knew a place where we could smoke bong without tobacco. When I asked where that would be he insisted I buy something from him so he tells me. When I tried to say no thank you he very rudely told us to go away, get out of his store because we were too much trouble. Very bad service, not even a street dealer would normally talk to me that way

The negative reviews here are hilarious: you went to the most touristy part of the city and were shocked at the prices. The truth is you pay a price to sit. Is it going to be the best quality? No, but it’s good enough and the staff were excellent. If you’re into people watching, give this spot a try.

Staff and weed was best location in the centrum this place was awesome and the service is great!
Darryl Edwards - 5 years ago
Staff weren't particularly friendly, the goods weren't very good and seemed a little moist, the music was too loud to have a comfortable chat and there was no extraction in there so it was really smokey. The drinks were the most expensive out of anywhere and weren't cold either
