Great experience, the waitress was very friendly and kind. A must do if you visit the city.

After buying a space cake in the Bulldog 88 down the street, I went to this place because as a woman I felt safer to have my first experience. With a friendly staff who kept checking on me from time to time, I felt very safe. The product was so good that to be honest, I'm not 100% sure if the conversations I had with them were real or if I imagined everything, but after everything, I'm 100% recommending this place, not only for the food, but for the friendliness of the staff. As someone who was alone, having my first experience ever, it didn't suck because of them. Thank you!

Super rude service . The only nice people are the ones from the door. The servers are rude and they lied to us. They said they didn’t have Heineken and then I saw people next to us having it . And then I came again another day to have a tea and smoke and they kicked me out cause I didn’t wanted to drink alcohol. Never coming to this one again.

Honestly, I would not recommend this place. Yesterday, I had one of the worst experiences in Holland at The Bulldog Mack (Oudezijds Voorburgwal). A waitress there was absolutely disrespectful and aggressive. From the moment we arrived, she treated us poorly. We asked for some cocktails, and she said no. Then we wanted to order a mixed drink, and she said she could only serve us at the table. Later, she refused to let us pay separately, saying that we could only do that at the bar where we were at first and she said we couldn’t order. There was also an issue with a lady who was asking for a Coke. The waitress refused, saying she could only serve alcohol. This lady was standing behind me, and we were discussing how rude the waitress was. The waitress then came over and grabbed the lady roughly by the arm. I told her not to do that, and she responded by telling me to mind my own business and spoke to me rudely. We started arguing, and she offered to take it outside for a fight! She then called security and had my family and me thrown out unjustly, not even allowing me to finish my expensive drink. It was a crazy situation, and I do not recommend this place at all. They made me cry out of sheer frustration.

Great place with outside seating, if you catch a sunny day - even better. Probably the few things that could be improved are the quality of the food - which is quite low, the prices for drinks - which are overrated and that 50p toilet fee that no one understands and should be included in the inflated prices anyway. Other than that, great pot and awesome atmosphere.

I liked the coffee shop vibe. Try to go underground floor for the real fun

Got a coffee and a small pint. Coffee was advertised 3.50. Beer was advertised 5.80. Then was charged 14 euros. Not happy at all. Management know what they are doing to customers and its disgusting. Don't go here. There are so many other nice coffee shops that will not rob you

A BIG LIE! Go there if you want to be robbed. An authentic scheeme. From the moment we arrived until the end. Bad service, rude waiter. At the end we ordered our bill and the guy just appeared with the machine for the payment saying the total. We asked for a receipt and he sold us a bunch of lies, that he couldn’t have the receipt, it was already in the system, impossible to print, etc we were a group of 4 and we wanted to share the bill he told us that we needed to look at the menu and make the count ourselves. We did that. That’s when we noticed there was an exact amount of 5€ charged extra. We told him this and he tried to sell us his big scheme deal. He told us that the beer we ordered was extra 2€ and that the menu was wrong. We told him that we don’t want to pay extra than what we had seen in the menu and that, even with the 2€ extra, we were paying for 5€. At this very moment the guy turned his back on us and said us that he wouldn’t do anything and that it is as it is. We tried to explain him that he was wrong, we tried to speak with another colleague, with a supervisor, and everything was denied. At the end he even threatened us, saying to my fried that inside the place there were a lot of hidden spots where he could beat him. In the end is a big disappointment and it is frustrating that a house with such name as Bulldog has this type of workers and people representing their establishment. I imagine the millionaire salary this guy gets at the end of the month if he’s robbing costumers like this.

Gin, Royal Bliss tonic - 12,50€ but you actually have to pay another 3,50€ for the tonic. SCAM :)

Avoid this place at all costs we definitely got scammed, but if you have to go demand a price menu first before ordering! We visited July 2023, and it was the only bad experience we had in Amsterdam. We were finally served by a blonde waitress after a long wait and asked for a menu, but they “ran out” - we wanted to order soft drinks only, but she said they don’t sell soft drinks, so we ordered a couple of gins and they somehow had the tonics for them. We then asked can we at least have tap water, then all of a sudden they had bottles of water to sell! We also noticed other people had soft drinks. Rather than argue, we thought we’d just pay and go somewhere else, but then we got the bill of just over €50, which she confirmed was correct! That didn’t seem to be the norm in Amsterdam, all the other places we went did not charge these prices.

Large number of bulldog bars around this area. We went on a Friday night. You pay 50c for the bathroom, and drinks are not cheap in any way however we had a booth which gave us service to the table. Girl serving was amazingly friendly and helpful with local knowledge also.

If I could leave zero stars I would. This place is a scam ordered an Affligem and an americano and was charged 14 euro. Asked for itemised recipet and saw was charge for 6 euro for the coffe and 7 euro for the pint even though menu states 3 euro for the coffee and 5.8 for the beer. Talked to the bar maid Jemina and was told some donkey excuse of how the coffee was a large and the menu price was wrong. Also questioned the one euro and they stated as service charge! Be warned they will scam you!

The Bulldog Mack cafe is an absolute gem in Amsterdam's vibrant scene. The atmosphere is inviting, with a perfect blend of classic charm and modern comfort. The staff are not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable about their offerings. Whether you're looking for a quiet spot to relax or a lively place to meet friends, The Bulldog Mack cafe has it all. I can't recommend it enough!

As a tourist customer service is always an important factor. The female waitress was lovely but I got charged €10 for a €5 portion of chips and a €3.50 Bulldog energy drink by a male waiter. Tbh it’s disgusting to tip yourself €1.50 when I have basic maths. I didn’t question it because I was in confusion but I hope this is not a reflection of how they treat all tourist. Experience would’ve been satisfactory had I not been overcharged.

Well located, not extremely busy. You can watch the boats go by. Tables were filthy, nastily cleaned with a filthy cloth

Great place to hang out with friends and have a bear. Music and atmosphere there is just great. I had a wonderful time there. Cost of a beer is 7€. It's a bit expensive place, but great for tourists. If you are visiting Amsterdam, I recommend this place to hang out with friends.

The unique coffee shop where you can smoke and drink beer. Is the best!!
Bruno De Paula - 2 years ago
Good spot to have a drink and hangout. It's a much more interesting spot to smoke than most coffeeshops and you can mix it with a beer. Fortunately they don't allow tobacco, so it just works and is one of my favorite places downtown Amsterdam. Really good music too, specially at night and weekends. Service is decent, never had a problem any time I went. Just a good hang. Went in 2014 and came back late 2022, place was the same. And I'm glad it was.

Went here as soon as they opened on the morning of my 21st birthday as a way to wake and bake. We sat outside which is lovely. If I'm not mistaken we had gorilla glue here ( Don't know if we got it at this exact bulldogs or a different one). I had a Jamaican coffee which was a little bitter in my opinion but now I know to stick to chocomel when smoking :) (selfie was taken by the outdoor seating area so you can get an idea of the view you'd have)

Went here for breakfast here and it was lovely. Not the cheapest you'll find I Amsterdam but not the most expensive either. Definitely worth it if you ask me. Can smoke inside, (not tobacco) located next the first bulldog coffee shop. Very easy to find.

They won’t serve water. I’m more than happy to pay but that’s not an option. Seems very strange!

State exactly what you want, otherwise a tea of 1,90 becomes a fresh mint tea triple the price. Staff wasn't very welcoming, quick serve without friendly words, and it wasn't because of the hustle. Almost empty tables, - should've been a sign to just pass by. Decent sandwiches, decent coffee.

Visited in daylight, friendly staff, good breakfast and great location. A good "welcome to Amsterdam" I'll say.

We went to Bull Dog pub for the first time during our stay in Amsterdam, today at about 22pm. I had a very bad impression of this place. The male bartender, he may even be the manager, attitude was arrogant and disrespectful. We set down for a few minutes in a table that apparently was reserved and he came to us speaking really rude! We ignored him and left. However, This is not acceptable! It is a shame as most of the places I’ve been in Amsterdam everyone were fantastic! I definitely suggest to the management to take some action against this individual that walks in the bar like he owns it. . I would not recommend this place.
leah m. - 2 years ago
the food was very overpriced especially for the lack of flavor and customer service. we ordered a variety of food that took a ridiculous amount of time to come out and despite the variety, the flavors were bland and the food was very dry. our waitress had a very cold demeanor, and forced us to move tables for no apparent reason (it was empty the entire time we were there.) besides that, the interior was quite cramped despite it being almost empty which just adds more questions on the lack of enjoyable service. even as someone who isn't into those type of places, the bulldog coffeeshop was a much more enjoyable visit.

Terrible, woman sitting by toilet demanding 50 cent to go to the toilet. We rolled a joint and a lady came to take our order but refused to sell one person a soft drink, said it was alcohol or nothing, encouraging the mixing of weed and alcohol which can make some people feel ill. We left as thought this plus the toilet charge was completely ridiculous. Came and had a good time here in February so not sure why it has changed. We've been to Amsterdam 7 other times and never had this problem before! We visited a different Bulldog closer to our hotel that we'd never been to and it was lovely thankfully

The worst place in Amsterdam, the blonde waitress is the rudest we ever seen in the world. She is disrespecting religions, telling off people and generally acting like you should never do with other human being - especially when you are a waitress and you get your wage to serve guests and be kind to them (she failed miserably). I will never come back here and discourage everyone in general, and definitely avoid the blonde one.

There was no star option so I gave one. We have been discriminated in this pub. Despite they have a soft drink menu, they told we have to drink alcohol. Really bad place. I do not suggest it especially for the tourists. They just rip off people here, especially non locals…

Very bad place and service. We drink 3 beers and payed. 35minutes later the workers tried to recived the payment again ( the same person that we payed already) . After that , another worker came to us and forced us to consume another drink or leave the place… bad place, bad workers and bad behaviours.. Beer expensive ( we payed 20 euros for 3 beers)

Could not recommend - the service was just above adequate etiquette. I got ‘okay’ Gin Tonic. After setting my laptop and the drink at the tables that are with cow leather in the back, I was asked by the waiter to go to the front of the bar and sit on the high table by the bar. No explanation, just that I cannot sit there. There was no reservation on the table, nor there were more than 15 people in the bar. I does not have pleasant time here .

Stopped here for breakfast. I had the English breakfast and my wife had a cheese and tomato omelette on toast. Both were excellent and the place is the full on Dutch experience. Their coffeeshop is just a few shops down if you find yourself running low

Jeeeezzzz, the beer here is horrendous. A large party all had beer on taps and it was completely flat and lifeless. We didn’t finish the over priced drinks and got the heck out of there. Wouldn’t not go back.

Used to be a good place. Now it's so full with people its impossible to move. And will take you 25 minutes minimum just to get served. Much better cafes around.

I was there 2 times. Super place. You will have all in one place. But now i put 3 becouse the staff on 7.11 and 8.11 said me that no more such institution in Red District. And now here only coffeshop and hemp store... why? Where is show, food, drinks, and disco? Is not it profitable???

Do you want to chill next to one of Amsterdam’s canals to relax? Bulldog is really a nice place to have a drink, smoke a cigarette or joint, or to have a spacecake. You can buy this inside, it costs €7. Music there can be raucous sometimes
Douglas McMillan - 5 years ago
Very rude lady wanted to charge me and then wouldn't take my coins to use the bathroom, apparently 2 euro cents aren't valid here! We also asked for small Heineken and they charged us for 5 euro bottles rather than the 2 euro 80 cent size. Very bad tourist rip off establishment. Avoid, you'll have a much better time elsewhere!

It had a nice quaint atmosphere. They have space cakes that contain 300mg thc. Cost was 7 euro. They are right on the canal. The bouncer turned away some young blondes in front of me. I told him I was from Seattle and he rushed me inside with a wink and a nod. Will go back.

Dear Google, You guys do a great job with reviews, but trust me, the people who're looking to visit The Bulldog Coffee shop, wouldn't be checking a Google review, and I mean it in the best of ways. O:) Maybe this review'll help? Peace ;)

As with most franchises - you pay for convenience. These Bulldog franchises are on every corner but their products are NOT the best priced. You can definitely find better quality goods at much more competitive prices in other establishments. If you are willing to venture out a bit, visit the surrounding areas around the Heineken brewery and you will find many more local gems (Katsu) and better food as well. This is not to say that the Bulldog Mack's shouldn't be visited - it is a still great place to drink and smoke - just don't forget there are MANY other options.
AJ Williams - 6 years ago
Big fan of the bulldog. There are 3 I believe on the same street. You can go and get a smoke if you're into that from the one bulldog and come down for he other to have a beer. Seating outside. Very popular so always get into conversation with travelers.

I went in to simply buy 2 joints. When I got to the counter the lady started of by completely ignoring me for about a minute while I just stood in front of her. I asked for what I wanted and she told me they were out of what I was looking for. I then asked for a different strain and she handed me 2 joints I did not ask for at all. Then she told me I could get what I originally asked for only to tell me that they were out of what I wanted so I couldn't actually have it, again.. I was getting frustrated with her bad mood so I bought the joints she handed me that I didn't ask for and even gave a small tip because maybe she was just having a rough night. I got back home a smoked one of the joints only to not feel high at all. I smoked half of the other an still nothing. I put the joint out and rolled out the contents only to realize there was no cannabis actually in the joint at all. I don't recommend these places at all. Bad service and fake joints.
